Y9G-KS system, Syndicate region. On the 3rd of February at 3:29 EVE Standard Time, a capital battle went down between Imperium-backed forces and Intergalactic Space Hobos [BUMS], supported by Snuffed Out [B B C].
The battle was fought over an anchoring Fortizar citadel in the system. Intergalactic Space Hobos sought to destroy the structure as it could have been used as a forward operating base in range of its own staging system. It formed 35 pilots with two squadrons of combat carriers and force auxiliaries as well as 15 dreadnoughts as backup. Snuffed Out was also contacted and brought 50 more pilots, mostly in combat carriers and a single dreadnought squadron. Other friendly parties also contributed additional two squadrons of dreadnoughts.
Intergalactic Space Hobos kept Snuffed Out and all dreadnoughts in reserve, bringing in only the combat carrier portion of its fleet with force auxiliaries serving as logistics backbone. The capital force materialized near the anchoring Fortizar, deploying fighters in preparation for the coming battle.
It didn’t take long for the defenders to arrive in the system. First, a The Initiative. [INIT.] interdictor warped to the combat carriers and deployed a warp disruption probe while lighting a cynosural beacon to let its 55-pilot Rupture cruiser fleet bridge through. Intergalactic Space Hobos acted quickly and destroyed the interdictor, causing the beacon to disappear which resulted in the Rupture fleet landing at the sun instead of the battlefield, forcing it to regroup.
A second cynosural beacon lit up at a perch to let through a joint NullSechnaya Sholupen [-NSH-]/Rote Kapelle [STUGH] Loki strategic cruiser fleet, estimated at 30 pilots. The strategic cruisers materialized on the field and warped at medium range of the combat carriers. They were soon joined by a Tactical Narcotics Team [TNT] Nightmare battleship fleet approximately 20 pilots strong. This fleet also kept medium range off the combat carriers. The Rupture fleet, in the meantime, finished regrouping and flew in the direction of the combat carriers to tackle them, lighting another cynosural beacon once it reached the ships.
Through the cynosural beacon came a full capital wing comprising all four alliances. It included nearly four squadrons of dreadnoughts as well as a few combat carriers and force auxiliaries. Landing on top of the Intergalactic Space Hobos fleet, the dreadnoughts entered their siege cycles and started targeting combat carriers. Before they could rip apart the attacking fleet, however, Intergalactic Space Hobos lit its own cynosural beacon to bring in reserves of its own. 70 more capital ships entered the fray, locking their hostile counterparts and opening fire.
At this point the battle became a full capital brawl, with both sides trading heavy blows. The attackers, with their slight advantage in dreadnoughts as well as a full combat carrier wing to boot, were able swiftly to dispatch most of the opposing dreadnoughts. The defenders returned fire, inflicting some losses by splitting their fire, with The Initiative targeting force auxiliaries while Tactical Narcotics Team focused on hostile dreadnoughts. In the meantime, the subcapitals focused their meager firepower on destroying fighters.
It didn’t take long for the attackers to remove all of the hostile dreadnoughts from the field and then clear out the rest of the defending capitals. With these gone, the combat carriers went after the Rupture fleet. The cruisers were in the middle of the hostile fleet, which allowed the fighters easily to swarm and destroy them. Within a couple of minutes, the Rupture fleet ceased to exist.
The next target was the Nightmare fleet. It too succumbed to the combat carriers’ fighters. The Loki fleet fared better, able to tank the incoming fire and destroy the support fighters that tried to pin it down. With both the capital fleet and the other defending subcapital fleets destroyed, the Loki fleet could do very little on its own and chose to retreat instead. With the hostiles in retreat, Snuffed Out and Intergalactic Space Hobos focused their considerable firepower on the now-vulnerable structure, destroying the Fortizar before securing the field and extracting safely.
A battle report for the Y9G-KS system can be found here.
All told, the battle lasted 33 minutes with Time Dilation not reported and the system hosting an estimated 350 pilots at the peak of the fighting.
A joint United Federation of Conifers [U.F.C]/G0N3 F1SS10N [G0F1S] Raven battleship fleet estimated at 25 pilots was also present at the scene of fighting. The fleet fought in support of the defenders but remained at long range of the fight and ultimately contributed little to the engagement, arriving late and leaving once the outcome became obvious.
According to sources, the citadel did not belong to NullSechnaya Sholupen, Rote Kapelle, United Federation of Conifers or G0N3 F1SS10N, who all came to defend the structure and had been active in the region fighting Intergalactic Space Hobos. With the heavy involvement of certain Imperium entities, it is safe to assume that the Fortizar belonged to them and had been placed there for unknown purposes. The owning corporation and its members had been created days prior to the battle itself, effectively masking the true owners of the structure.
The defenders lost a combined 94 ships including 34 dreadnoughts, 2 force auxiliaries, 6 combat carriers, 16 battleships, 23 cruisers and 1 strategic cruiser for a total of 129.91 billion ISK damage.
The attackers lost 19 ships including 15 dreadnoughts, 2 force auxiliaries and 1 combat carrier for a total of 41.6 billion ISK damage.
