Q1 2019 Security Update

On Tuesday 19th Team Security posted the Q1 2019 Security update. Feedback can be found on the eve-o forums and on reddit.

Statistics at this point in the quarter include:

  • 1350 account bans for account hacking.
  • 4102 account bans for botting related activities.
  • 1205 account bans for RMT related activities.

Upcoming changes include:

As we discussed initially in the New Year security update, the team were considering placing level 4 and 5 courier missions behind the requirement to have Omega clone status.

After investigating further, the decision has been made to place all level 4 and 5 missions behind the requirement to have Omega status, to assist the fight against RMT and botting.

Of course, we are aware that mission running is only a part of the issue, we’re also investigating more ways to reduce the abuse of alpha accounts.

The changes to level 4 and 5 missions will be arriving on Singularity in the coming days, and are scheduled to go live with the March release.

Noizy of the Nosey Gamer blog has been monitoring this topic for some time, in conjunction with a broader drive from the playerbase to identify obvious bots. His reaction to this announcement can be found here.

Reminders to report botting and keep accounts protected by using 2FA and strong passwords are issued in most updates of this type. This update also contains a warning directed at player organisations who harbour botters, with a statement indicating that some alliances have recently been punished for this activity:

If you’re an alliance or coalition leader, don’t harbour these people. If you’re renting space to an alliance, don’t rent to people who’re botting.

We’ll come for the ISK and assets, and you’ll end up cleaned out.

Several alliances have found this out the hard way recently. We will give those involved in botting and real money trading no quarter. Those who harbour these people and profit from it will be stripped of assets and ISK that are gained through illicit means.

On Wednesday 20th CCP karkur posted a ‘New UI Pointer Tool’ in development to the eve-o forums with a request for feedback and testing. The tool is currently on Sisi and has been created in response to player requests for features to assist new player guidance and mentoring.
