NPSI is not some underground capsuleers club with secret handshakes, nods or winks.
NSPI is not for l337 pilots with a gazillion skillpoints.
NPSI is here – for everyone.
For many, NPSI introduces capsuleers to PVP, and a whole different spectrum of opportunities within EVE online. Like it or not, NPSI is growing, and is here to stay.
NPSI – or Not Purple Shoot It – quite simply, is fleeting up with the mentality of “if you’re not with me, you’re against me”.
Broadly speaking, in EVE, this means that anyone in your fleet (who by default appear as Purple on your overview & brackets) is your friend, and everything else is a valid target.
There are a number of big-name NPSI groups out there. In this new series of articles called “NPSI: Community Spotlight”, we talk to some of the larger, more established NPSI groups. These organisations engage in large fleet warfare, cloaky high-value target hunter gangs, and those that provide newbro friendly content. In addition to established groups there are new and recent additions to the NPSI fold that provide first class small gang content, and those starting out on the NPSI pathway in setting up an NPSI group.
This series is by no means a be-all-and-end-all of the content available out there – it is a representative selection of a group of entities that are recognisable in the NSPI world. If you would like your group to be featured in this segment, please join the NER Discord and contact the writer or an editor.
This weeks NPSI Spotlight interview is with Greygal of Redemption Road.
1. Tell me a bit about your time in eve online?
I’ll have been playing Eve for 10 years this May. Spent my first 2.5 years living in wormhole space with a small industrial/pvp corp, then over 2 years with Agony Unleashed, where I eventually became head of their PVP-University project. In 2011, I struck out on my own and founded Redemption Road and Affirmative. Alliance.
2. Tell me a bit about your group?
Redemption Road and Affirmative. Alliance was founded with a focus on organising public
roams, and we have been a public roam community since our founding. We’ve lived in both lowsec and nullsec, including Querious, Providence, and Catch, and fielded a tournament team of our community members for the NEOII, ATXII, ATXIII and ATXIV tournaments. We also survived the Duality games and have a module named after us (the Affirmative. Modified Entosis Link).
Currently, in game, our public roams are our primary activity, and as a corp and alliance, we are now actively retired from responsibility.
Out of game, I (Greygal) and some of the squirrels have been involved in organizing volunteer players to help CCP run EveVegas since 2014, helped out at Fanfest 2017, and are currently organizing the Cruisers of Eve Alaska cruise. We love raising money for charity, and thanks to the amazing generosity of the Eve community, we have helped raise several tens of thousands of dollars for charities.
3. How long has your group been around?
Our NPSI community has been continuously operating since November, 2011. At this point in time, we are currently the oldest continuously-running NPSI community.
4. What is your style of PVP?
Fast moving, hit-and-run – explode and go! We bring small gang PVP tactics to fleets of 25-50!
5. What do you fly?
We fly primarily frigates and destroyers, with the occasional cruiser roam.
6. Who do you cater for?
We focus on new/new to fleets/pvp players and casual players, returning players and those who just love to fly together.
7. Are there any limitations?
8. How often do you roam?
Currently, we organize our monthly NewBro New Player Roam on the Sunday closest to the 15th of the month, and we also roam most Sundays at 20:00. All our roams currently depart from Berta.
Our monthly NewBro New Player Roam is completely free to anyone who wishes to join the roam, and we will even give you a free frigate and/or destroyer if you join the fleet! While we focus on new players during this roam, everyone is welcome no matter how experienced! (FYI: Our next NewBro Roam is Sunday, April 14th at 20:00 out of Berta)
9. Where do you roam?
Nullsec! We tend to roam Curse, Catch and Providence most often, but occasionally will transit through Thera to roam in other areas.
10. Why NPSI?
Lots of explosions, no diplomacy, no stress, no standings, no CTAs, no strategic objectives, little responsibility… the better question is why NOT NPSI!
11. What does NPSI mean to you?
For me personally, NPSI means spreading my love and addiction of Eve the game and the
community to other players, new and old; I get to show what I love about Eve more than
anything else: Flying around space with awesome people I genuinely like, creating explosions, together!
12. How does someone get involved?
13. Why choose your group over other NPSI groups?
Our fleets are professionally run with some of the most skilled scouts/skirmishers in the universe out there finding us fights. Our coms are “casual pro” and “generally safe for work” (or the kids overhearing!)… sure, the occasional curse word happens, but we’re also adults and don’t get bent out of shape about it. We’re warm and friendly, we don’t really take anything at all that seriously, and most importantly, we’re just a bunch of squirrels looking for nuts!
14. What would you like to see CCP do to improve visibility of NPSI communities?
Let us post events on the ingame calendar OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
Let us open our fleets to ANYONE, not just those who match standings or are in our
1. Favourite fight in eve?
I love a big hand-shaking heart-thumping furball of a fight, where nearly everyone gets on at least one kill, the fight lasts at least several minutes, and nobody is really sure who actually “won” the fight because it was just so giggle-worthy!
2. Favourite type of gang?
Kitchen sink frigs/dessies! Cheap, effective, and fast!
3. Worst welp?
It ain’t a welp if you kill at least one! TBH, I’d have to say our worst welp was our first match in ATXII… some fights on TQ have been less giggle-worthy than others, but even the ones where we didn’t get a single kill, we still learned something from the fight, making us better players in the long run.
4. Funniest fight?
Oh wow… so many… the time a dude ejected from a 3 billion isk Machariel rather than die to us… virtually every fight we’ve ever had with Brave Newbies…
5. Can you describe the problems NPSI face?
Spreading the word that NPSI exists.
Getting the word out on how to join public roams.
Irritating fleeting up process – CCPlease let our fleets show in the fleet finder!
